Yes I know it’s Christmas. Yes I know that everyone is pushed to the limit with dealing with people. But that is no excuse for laziness and inept customer service. My internet has been non-existent for 2 weeks. In fact I have been having intermittent problems for a few months now. So today I’m sitting outside at a coffee shop sandwiched between tone-deaf carollers and a guy who looks like he has leprosy in both legs. Everyone around me has hands out looking for a little Christmas cheer. All this fun to explain the reason for my whining. Yesterday I went to the (non)-service department of my handy local internet service provider to see if they could replace my modem/router. After a sigh, and a look of complete boredom the lady at the counter asked what our problem was. I explained, another sigh, and she asked me a battery of questions treating me like I was 5 or the mentally challenged guy on the corner selling pens. Once we reached the level of her incompetence she got on the phone to put me through to the service technician, or so I thought. Instead I was greeted by another lady who told me that in order to fix my problem I would have to sign another one year contract to receive a new modem….I was stunned. “Really, I’ve been a customer for four years and this is all you can do?” I was assured that I was a valued customer but we could expect no service without a new contract…once again I was stunned. So for the cost of a modem, the company lost a continuing customer. I walked across the street and signed up with the competition. (Now I have to wait a month for the new service) So over the holidays I’m having a “classic” Christmas without all the extra distractions of online bills, blog updates and Facebook.
